Create a checkerboard fill pattern in a Word table

Hi,

I am using Word 2010 on Win 7 Pro x64.

Is there a way to create a "checkerboard" fill pattern in a Word Table as a table style that automatically extends the pattern when a row is inserted below it as shown here?

All the Word table styles seem to be used for "banding" rows or columns.

Thanks.

    Hello,

There is no ‘checkboard’ type pattern available in Word 2010. You would need to manually customize the required pattern.

You may refer to the article given below on how to create and apply a table stripe style in Word.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/286791/en-us

Note: The article applies to Word 2010 as well.

For further queries, reply and we would be happy to assist.

    Thank you.

    Hi Nayana,

Hoped there was a solution to this table pattern but see that there isn't. I know how to stripe a table but that does not help in this case. I realize that manually setting up a checkerboard pattern for a long table would not be an effective solution.

    Thanks for your help.

I think the best way to do this is make a two-row table, format the cells required grey and then copy-paste the rows below the existing rows. Can't think of any way to do it automatically.

Don't forget that you can <ctrl> click on cells to select more than one and then apply shading (click when the cursor is a black arrow at the left of the cell).

Years ago I prepared a Scrabble scoreboard on WordPerfect (under DOS!). It took ages but was worth it!
