Duplicate files when saving?!?

Hi,

I am working on a microsoft word document and each time i quit and save changes i made it creates a duplicate with old version... How do i change this?

    That Possibly is due to two setting from the OSX operating system

    And

    This window shows up  as you are restarting, or closing down computer.

    See if that stops files opening

    Thank you for your answer but it is unchecked!?!? Also, when i open the app it opens ALL the files i've been working on recently!?! Can you help me fix this? Thank you

    That's a setting in Word > Preferences > Save to always create a backup. Before saving over the previous saved version it renames the file.

    It's a very worthwhile option but if you think you don't want it then you can elect to turn it off.
