Excel 2013 screen refresh issues

Hi

I'm using Win 7 Pro 64-bit SP1, Excel 2013 32-bit with a nVidia NVS310 graphics card and dual-screen. The machine has 12GB RAM. Windows, Office and nVidia drivers are patched up-to-date. Fairly often, but not always, Excel starts to lag on refreshing the screen both in the Ribbon and in the sheets so changes such as inserting columns, hovering over the menus in the ribbon, etc do not redrawn on the screen or the menus do not get highlighted. Using Ctrl-n to create a new workbook causes the screen to update and I find that I'm frequently creating and then closing new workbooks to force Excel to redraw the screen. I end up having to quit and re-start Excel in order to get any work done. I have tried removing the graphics drivers and then re-installing but the issue persists. Have also tried disabling hardware graphics acceleration in the Advanced section of Options in Excel.

Does anyone have similar problems or any ideas?

Thanks

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Office Community.

I know how this concerns you, let me help you to resolve this issue.

Let's try the following methods and see it helps.

    Method 1 ****

Start Excel in safe mode following instructions mentioned below and verify the result.

    * Hold Windows key + R.

    * Copy and paste, or type the following command in the Open box, and then press Enter

    Excel /safe

Note: There is a space between Excel and '/'. Replace

If Excel works as expected in safe mode, disable the add-ins by following steps mentioned below and determine the problem causing add-in:

    a) Click on File menu, click Options, Add-ins, Go button besides Manage: Com-in Add.

    b) Check if there are add-ins listed, clear the checkbox.

    c) Close the Office program and restart it.

    d) Enable each add-in one at a time, restart the Word, and repeat the above procedure. If the issue reappears again, it will help you to determine which add-in is causing this issue.

    Method 2 ****

Change the default printer driver to Microsoft XPS Document Writeror Microsoft OneNoteand verify whether issue re-occurs.

Refer to the following article for instructions on how to change the default printer.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/windows7/Change-your-default-printer

Method 3 ****If issue still persists, start your computer in a clean boot state following instructions mentioned in the article below and verify the result.

You may refer to the link below for instructions how to start the computer in a clean boot state.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Clean boot is performed to disable all start up programs and 3rd party services on the machine to check if they are conflicting with Excel.

Note: Ensure to reset the computer in normal mode after troubleshooting.

Hope the above information helps. Keep us posted on the status of the issue and we will be glad to offer our assistance.

    Thank you.
