Excel 2010 "Excel cannot complete this task with available resources. Choose less data or close other applications."

Hi guys

Been trying to sort out an issue with a system running Excel 2010. Seems to run fine for a while but after being used for a while it starts showing the following error, but only when trying to open the files from a shortcut or link.

"Excel cannot complete this task with available resources. Choose less data or close other applications."

If I instead open then file through the Excel window that is open it will open fine. I have looked into this and people have said to check the “Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)” option in the settings of Excel. Unfortunately when I select this option this present another issues in that when I try to load a file from a shortcut or link I get the following message instead.

"There was a Problem sending the command to the program"

When looking up this error everything point to unchecking the DDE option in Excel which then brings me round in a full circle and back to the original issue. The user is also using QuickBooks on the system and uses the integration to produce reports in excel from QuickBooks, which will only work correctly if the DDE option is selected. If this option isn’t selected then they also receive the insufficient resources error.

System specs are

Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

Office Home and Business 2010

QuickBooks 2012 Premier

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
