Hi,

You may try to open Excel application in safe mode and check if it works fine:

Click Start, type ‘excel /safe’ without quotes in search program and files and hit enter.

Note: There is a space between the word ‘Excel’ and forward slash.

If Excel application works fine as expected in application safe, you may disable the Add-ins associated to Excel application and check if it works.

I hope the above information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.

    Issue:

    I had the exact same situation and error.

    Open a formerly know good file and attempt to save and receive the same APPCRASH, with the Exception Code: c0000005. Excel closes and does not save the file.

    Problem signature:

      Problem Event Name: APPCRASH

      Application Name: EXCEL.EXE

      Application Version: 15.0.4517.1004

      Application Timestamp: 51b14184

      Fault Module Name: EXCEL.EXE

      Fault Module Version: 15.0.4517.1004

      Fault Module Timestamp: 51b14184

      Exception Code: c0000005

    Resolution:

    My file was saved as an Excel Workbook in 97-2003 format.

    I saved the same file as the first selection, "Excel Workbook" no format, and it saved.

    Testing proved that formulas worked and further saves were good in this format.

    hi.  I had to upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit MS Office due to problems I was having in Excel.  Some of the larger files I was in had 500K+rows of data, and were 150MB+ in terms of files size; all I have read seemed to imply that files much larger would impact performance (by not being able to tap into more than 2 GB of virtual memory), but anyway I made the change, uninstalling the 32-bit and then installing the 64-bit.  I am now getting 'App Crashes' when I attempt to save with even simple macros.  The one below is one I created by using the record feature for macros to create the VBA code, but immediately the file began crashing; once I deleted this VBA, it saved fine.

    Everything I have read was concerned with 'Declare Statements', but I don't have any of those in this very simple macro.  Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong:

    Sub CAPTURE_HISTOGRAM_TOTAL()

    '

    ' CAPTURE_HISTOGRAM_TOTAL Macro

    '

    '

        Application.Goto Reference:="capture_histogram"

        Selection.CopyPicture Appearance:=xlScreen, Format:=xlBitmap

        Range("A1").Select

    End Sub
