Word Document Jumbles Up Everything

Hi,

A co-worker of mine has a long table in a word document that appears all jumbled up when they view on their computer, but doesn't show up jumbled on my computer.  It will also jumble up when printed (everything overlaps creating a horrible looking document).  The only way it will show correctly on their computer is if they view under "outline" view.  I don't have this problem on my pc or my mac so I don't know how to fix this issue.

Thanks

If the document displays & prints correctly on 1 computer there is most likely nothing about the document that needs to be 'fixed'. The issue is local to the unit having the problem. It's impossible to determine with any certainty why a document displays incorrectly on a specific computer without knowing certain things about that computer.

Additional to what Rich suggests, these are a few unknown factors local to the other system:

  • Version & update level of Office/Word
  • Missing or conflicting fonts
  • Significantly different printer driver
  • Damaged or corrupted preferences file
  • Corrupt Normal template
  • Insufficient memory [RAM]

I finally found out what the problem was.  I guess the problematic computer didn't have all the Office updates.  Once the updates were done this problem was gone.  Thanks again for the help.

Both computers have the same version of word and are both up to date.  The font used is the standard arial font and both computers are no more than 1 year old so I doubt memory should be an issue. I tried all views and final markup etc, but mine still looks okay and can't replicate the cell overlap that is shown on the other computer.  The document prints okay only on my computer, and it will print jumbled up on the other computer.

    Thanks again.

What about the other things Bob suggested?

Fonts, Print Driver, Preference File, Normal Template?

Did you look into those items?

It sounds like tracked changes to me.

Your system is probably set to just Show Final and theirs is set to Final Showing Markup.

Take a look at the setting on your system under the Review tab and try changing them with the document open.
