Linking Excel Files Using Sky Drive

When we try to link excel files on skydrive to read cells/lookups, it allows us to do so. When we then close and re-open the file, it doesn't recognise the link to the file and an error message appears. This is happening all the time at present but used to be ok. The internet connection is ok and there are no syncing / uploading issues. The files are being opened from exactly the same file location and on the same computer. Can anyone help with this?

Thanks

Thank you for getting back to us.

Are you accessing the SkyDrive from browser or using a SkyDrive App?

If you’re using the SkyDrive App then you may refer to the thread link mentioned below and check if that helps:

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office\_365hp-office\_storage/cant-open-office-files-on-skydrive/3e05b1d9-bc29-421c-aefe-7a97065ba7ed

If you’re accessing from browser then check if you can download the files from there then save it locally and work on it.

    Thank you.

I am having problems with any excel file that is linked to another excel file.

First I get this message for every linked cell

sorry, we could not open https://d.docs.live.net/users/alberto/Skydrive/Excel/..folder name../file name...xls

When I press Ok then I get this message

Microsoft excel cannot access the file https://d.docs.live.net/users/alberto/Skydrive/Excel/..folder name../file name...xls. There are several reasons:

The file name and path does not exist

The file is being used by another program

The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook

This happens with EVERY LINKED CELL

After this process goes through every linked cell then I get the last message

Do you want to make this file a Trusted Document?

This file is on a network location. Other users who has access to this networklocation may be able to tamper with this file.

I’m using Excel from my Office 365 subscription.  All files are on my SkyDrive, in different folders.

I am having problems with any excel file that is linked to another excel file.

First I get this message for every linked cell

When I press Ok then I get this message

This happens with EVERY LINKED CELL

After this process goes through every linked cell then I get the last message

Incredibly frustrating. I spent hours with Microsoft support being transferred from department to another department and nobody could help.
