Word 13 does not work

My word 13 suddenly stopped working and says it has run into an error that is preventing it from opening. All other office programs work fine. It does not run in safe mode and both repair options won't work. In fact every time I try to repair it online it deletes my whole office saying I need windows 7 or higher, even though I have windows 8. If I reinstall it the same problem exists. Does anyone have a solution?

    Hi Katharine,

Thank you for choosing Microsoft Community. Let me assist you with the issue related to Word 2013.

I need information to assist you better:

How did you uninstall the Office program, was it though fix it or by clicking on uninstall from the control panel, programs and features list?

Try the steps below and check the result:

Check if Word is running in Compatibility mode:

    · Close Word.

    · Browse to the location mentioned below:

    · C:\Program Files or programs files (X86)\Microsoft Office\Office15

    Or C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\Office15

    · Right click on Winword.exe<Properties<Compatibility

    · Uncheck the box Run this Program in Compatibility Mode, Make sure you also click on the option change settings for all users tab at the bottom of the same screen.

    · Click on Apply and Ok.

Try to open Word and check if the issue persists.

Run the fix it mentioned in the link below to remove the traces of Office completely from the computer:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501

Note: Try to save the fix it tool to the desktop and then run it to remove Office.

If you have already tried fix it, I would suggest you to remove Office manually from the computer. (Refer to the section Remove Office manually).

Note: Ensure to read the disclaimer or take a backup of the registry before modifying it.

Once removed restart the computer and then reinstall the Office suite.

I hope the above steps helps. Let us know if you need any help.

    Thank you.

Thank you very much for your answer! Unfortunately, it did not solve the problem. I tried both ways to to remove office and I still have the problem.

If I uncheck the run this Program in Compatibility Mode box, I get as far as opening word, but as soon as I open a document it says Microsoft office has stopped working and closes again.
