Code 6B7 Windows Update ran into a problem.

All of the Office 2013 related updates offered on Sept. 9 fail to install with the message above returned. Clicking on the "Get help with this error" link just gets a "We couldn't find any results" message.

I have done many searches but any references I find to this error are dated 2012 and are for Windows 7 and/or Vista.

Since I have not found any recent references to this problem I believe it is something on my computer but cannot find out what.

I have tried unregistering and re-registering the Windows Installer. No change.

I have checked the Windows Installer Service. It is set to "Manual" I tried starting the service and ran the updates again. Still failed.

I tried running each update individually. Each one fails with the same error.

Since the first update failure after Sept. 9 the computer has been restarted several times for other reasons. The updates still fail.

the updates are:

Definition Update for MS Office 2013 KB2760587

Excel 2013 KB2889861

Lync 2013 KB2889060

Office 2013 KB1881001

Office 2013 KB1881039

Office 2013 KB2881081

Office 2013 KB2889848

Office 2013 KB2889862

PowerPoint 2013 KB2889847

Word 2013 KB2889852

I would greatly appreciate any help that can be offered for this problem.

    Hello Girish:

I tried to repair the Office 2013 installation per the instructions. The repair failed with the message:

Error 1719: Windows Installer Service could not be accessed.

I checked Services and the service was running and set to Manual.

I stopped and restarted the service then I tried the Office repair again. It still failed with the same message.

    Thank you for your assistance.

    Hello Fred,

The issue may occur if the Office installation on the computer is corrupted or missing installation components.

You may repair the Office 2013 installation and then try installing the updates and check if it helps resolve the issue.

What about other windows updates, do they get installed without any issues?

Download these updates manually and then try installing, for example go to the kb mentioned and download the relevant update.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2889861

The windows updates dated 9/9 installed OK.

I tried downloading and installing the updates individually by going to the KB site and downloading from there. They all failed with no error codes given.

I then did a system restore back to prior to the automatic update which occurred on 9/10 which contained the office updates as well as the windows ones.

I then re-installed the 9/9 updates. I went into Windows Update and unchecked the office updates then initiated the install. Even though I had unchecked the office updates they were installed anyway but, while the windows updates were successful the office updates all failed.

It looks like one of the windows updates does something to cause the office update failure. The only way I know of to check this would be to do another restore and then do each windows update one at a time and trying the office updates after each install. That would take a lot of time which I don't have.
