MS Project 2010 - update project

I am trying to update the tasks by using Update Project.

In the popup I select the 'Reschedule uncompleted work to start after' and I select today's date: Jan 8, 2015

I do this only for one selected uncompleted tasks which has Do not start before March 10, 2015.

When I press OK I get the message: 'project did not rescheduled certain unstarted tasks because of constraint date applied to them ... (with the whole explanation).

The actual result of me pressing OK for this task should be: Nothing. Nothing, since the task is scheduled in the future. Yet this task, in my true project schedule, prevents me from updating all of my project. And yes I could select the tasks that do not have a 'must start' constraints and yes I could probably use something else than 'must start' but to me, that would be a workaround something that should work.

I've done this before, not in this version as we have just received it. I have to be missing something.

Thank for your help.

    Hello,

Which version of Project are you using?

I do remember that in one of the previous versions (2000 or about) indeed Update Project did not work when one of the tasks has a constraint as you describe. This error was removed in later versions.

    Greetings,

    Hi, thank you.

Yes originally I was trying to apply the update to the whole project but I was getting this message. I actually followed the explanation in the popup which is to filter the tasks to only see tasks with a Starting date prior to the Update date I am trying to update to. But I had none.

So I looked for the task that was causing the error. I only posted my message this way to simplify the situation. This way it is clear that I cannot update this task, and the project (as a whole) because of this specific task.

I made two tasks, A and B, 10 days duration, linked them as predecessor/successor (FS0), with a project start date 01/01/2015, so that B is scheduled to start 15/01/2015.

Then I selected B and used update project and choose reschedule unstarted work to start after 09/01/2015, but only for the selected task... and what happened is that nothing happened, just as expected, and no warning.

So the warning you are getting (it is not really an error) does not concern the task you mention.

    Hi,

"Project did not reschedule CERTAIN unstarted tasks..."

But it does reschedule those that are free to be rescheduled, doesn't it?

    Greetings,

    Roger --

I must be done, but I think you are going to need to explain how the task in question prevents you from updating all of the project.  If you choose the Selected Tasks option in the dialog, the rescheduling would only affect the selected task and no others.  If you want the software to reschedule ANY uncompleted task in the past, you need to select the Entire Project option in the dialog.

Please explain further, because I am really confused.  Let us know and we will try to help you.
