Word 2013 does not print some embedded objects

Hello

I have a recurring problem trying to print embedded graphs for my dissertation in Word 2013. They are created in GraphPad prism and are embedded. They are clearly visible on the screen, and when printed to Xerox printer or to Office XPS printer, they disappear

  • there is just an empty space. Images (photographs) remain present. A similar problem occurs when I am trying to print images that were saved as EMF by another program and embedded into Word by me as drag and drop. They instead come out completely black but are clearly visible on the screen.

If I save the document as PDF within Word, then they are present, but the fonts within the graphs are changed from Arial to a smaller sans serif font. Also, the images are dramatically reduced in resolution and quality.

I won't be able to actually print my dissertation with this issue. I would gratefully appreciate any help with this problem. Even being able to print/save to PDF in high quality would be an acceptable solution.

Igor

Hi Igor,

Since you are dragging the image from another application to Word, the resolution of the image will not be supported. Office application supports a resolution of 600dpi.

You may copy that image from the required program to MS Paint, and use the save as option to save the image in Jpg format. Now embed the image into Word document and check if the print appears fine.

Let us know the results for further assistance.

Still trying to get the scaled embedded object to print, in Microsoft Office 365 Pro Plus (Ver. 15.0.4779.1002) I tried looking at the options in File | Options | Advanced, in the Print Options section there is a setting "Scale content for A4 or 8.5 x 11" paper sizes".  I turned this off and tried printing; same problem.  Turned it back on and now it prints scaled embedded objects the way you would expect.

    Go figure.

There is something similar in Word 2003 in the Print Options section about printing objects (should be checked).

If you try to scale the object after inserting, you might have problems (at least I do in Word 2013).

The object appears fine in Print Preview, but is covered up partially when printed.  I don't have an answer how to successfully scale an embedded object and print too at the moment.  You can scale the object in word and it appears fine.  Appears fine in Print Preview.

However the printer won't print correctly what is in Print Preview if it is a scaled embedded object (MS-Excel chart in my case).  When I left the scale alone, it did print.

    Hi Aravinda,

Thank you, but that is not the problem I have. Those high resolution (300dpi) images print perfectly.

It is embedded graphs which are either EMF files or links to the graphing programme which makes graphs using vectors. These don't print to XPS or normal printer, but they do save (in rather altered format with fonts substituted, and high res images downsampled) to PDF.

I have tried re-inserting the graphs with no success.

    Any help would be welcome.

    Igor
