Save a Document with Collapsed Headings

Hi,

I have created a Word document that contains collapsible headings. I want all of the headings to be collapsed when opening the document, but I can't seem to save the document this way. No matter how I save, all of the sections are expanded when I first open the document.

Is there a setting where I can change the default to "Collapse All Headers on Open"?

Thanks for your help!

I just had another thought.  On the Home tab, open paragraph, see the little checkbox?  It reads "Collapsed by default".  If you check that, those headings should stay collapsed.  Not sure how you collapse your headings, so you may already know this, but you can right-click on any heading and collapse all.

Right-click on any heading >  Paragraph > Indents and Spacing > General > Outline level should say Level 1 > Check "Collapsed by default"

To make all the headings collapsed by default:

Right-click on any heading > Expand/Collapse > Collapse All Headings

Then choose all of the headings and right-click > Paragraph > Indents and Spacing > General > Outline level should say Level 1 > Check "Collapsed by default"

It would be nice if you could save it collapsed as a part of the document design. Sure i can set the general Word setting for me but if i send it to someone else who most likely don't have the collapse all setting it will open expanded.

Tried all tips herein - this worked for me however only when accessing the Paragraph via below instructions individually for each heading - as per Ozmos - thanking you

You have to go to each heading individually and set the default to collapse by default.
