My table height & width keeps changing when I format my table size in Publisher

Ugghhh!!  I have created a tri-folder brochure where each inside panels has about 6 mini tables with soccer player's bio.  I need each table to be an exact height & size - so I am only setting it & changing things on the SIZE tab.  I set each one with a specific height & width before & after I entered my text about 9 times & they keep changing no matter what I do.  I've tried checking & un-checking the "lock aspect ratio" to see if that makes a difference but it doesn't.  In terms of height it only changes by a point size (from 1.888 to 1.889), but in terms of the width it keeps changing by more.  Can someone please tell me why it is doing this on its own and how to stop it?

I would greatly appreciate the help

this is weird, I got an email that stated:  "Sorry, but I don't have any good answers for you. If it were me I would try creating the tables in Word and then either copy and pasting them or importing each as a file. Word has more table formatting functionality than Publisher."   But when I log in here, I can't find this reply.  So I'm responding here.

I agree with you and thanks for trying anyway.  It is the strangest, weirdest thing. I have had to set & reset over and over again.  I won't use Publisher again for anything I have to customize.

Sorry about that. I posted that reply and then immediately thought better of it and deleted it. I thought maybe if I left my answer off maybe someone else would jump in and offer a better solution. But now that the thread is messed up I may as well explain...

And I may as well throw out yet another stab in the dark solution. Instead of creating a new table each time, create one that is formatted as you like and then right click > add to content library and perhaps save under personal. Now instead of creating a new table for each player instead go to Insert > Item from content library and insert the table you saved and edit it. Perhaps this will stop the shift in size.

Also if you haven't already go to View > and check Special Characters. This may give you some insight as to what is going on within the tables that is causing the shifts as you will be able to see spaces, hard and soft returns, etc.

Good luck.

Thanks so much for your answer, but most of the tables that keep resizing are shorter & have less text -- so they don't need more width or height for them to do this.

Perhaps: "Each cell expands to fit your text, unless you lock the table size by clearing the check mark next to Grow to Fit Text on the Table menu." - http://office.microsoft.com/en-in/publisher-help/create-a-table-HP005114889.aspx?CTT=1
