I want to decrease the space between rows in the label address to make them fit the labels better

I created labels with Mail Merge.  They're address labels for a newsletter.  The resulting labels are ok, but they just barely fit into the space for the label.  I want to move the rows in the address closer together so that they fit the labels better.  Is this possible?

By experiment, there are a couple of things to be aware of.

    • Make the changes in the paragraph spacing in the first cell before you click the Update Labels button. That lets you apply different attributes to different lines in the cell, which can be important. The spacing will be propagated to the other cells along with the merge fields when you click Update Labels.
    • Don't use the Address Block button, because it creates paragraphs with the Normal style and ignores direct paragraph spacing changes.
    • Don't set the Space Before value of the first paragraph in the cell to 0 pt. If you do, that line gets pushed to the top of the label. Depending on how accurate your printer is, that could push it off the top.
    • For the other lines, you can set Space Before and Space After to 0 pt, and set the line spacing to Exactly 11 pt (or, in general, the same as the point size of the font you're using).

In the mail merge main document, press Ctrl+A to select everything and then click on the dialog launcher in the Paragraph section of the Home tab of the ribbon and modify the Line spacing or the space before or after the paragraphs on the Indents and Spacing tab of the Paragraph dialog.
