Excel Chart - Axis Format to Link to Source while data source is in a different workbook

Question

I want to format chart Axis formatting to source data which is not a problem when both chart and source data are in the same workbook.

Problem being faced by me is when Chart and Source data are in different workbook and the source data workbook is closed, Chart axis formatting is lost... is there any way to fix it?

(As soon as I open the workbook that has source data, formatting of axis starts picking it up for source but not when the workbook is closed)

AFAIK.. this is a known issue if the file path to the source data is on a network. Copy the source data to a diff.. location and see if that helps. You can also try the same in PowerPoint and check if you can repro the same.
