Remove section breaks

Split from this thread.

I have done what you said and cannot select the page breaks. My cursor acts as if there is nothing there it can select. And I cannot get rid of the breaks. This is frustrating and very inconvenient.

    You should be able to use Find/Replace to remove Section breaks, where:

    Find = ^b

    Replace = nothing.

    To remove manual page breaks as well, use:

    Find = ^12

    Replace = nothing.

    To remove section Break:

    1. click on the ¶ button on the Standard Toolbar.
    2. Scroll to desired section break

    Will show something like this (example) :

    –––––––––––section break continuous––––––––––––– (will be in light blue color) 3. Place cursor at the beginning the Break. 4. Click at beginning of break, to select. 5. Hit delete

    Section break will be removed.

    See this movie see if will help.

    But be aware that when you remove section breaks, OF COURSE you will mess up your footnotes, because the footnotes are placed in relation to the section breaks.

    I suspect you meant page headers & footers, not footnotes. Deleting Section breaks can make a mess of page headers & footers and other page layout elements, including page orientation, margins and text columns. Footnotes & endnotes are liable to be affected only if they're configured to re-start numbering after a section break - but even then only the numbering (and endnote locations) will be affected.

    Guys:

    If you want to "remove" section breaks or page breaks, follow Paul's (Macropod's) advice.

    But be aware that when you remove section breaks, OF COURSE you will mess up your footnotes, because the footnotes are placed in relation to the section breaks.

    However, neither of you are giving us anywhere near enough detail to be able to give you a complete answer.  This is not twitter: we need about a page of detail from you before we can know what's going on and answer properly.  We can't read your screen from here.

    Over to you...

    Same here! Nothing above helps; I have a 200-page document, and this messes up the footnotes. Please help soon!
