can't select table

Working with Mac 10.7.5 and Word 14.3.7 but have had this problem in earler versions of both.

When I attempt to click on the little cross in the upper left-hand corner to select the entire table, the little blighter flickers out, then plays peek-a-boo until I quit trying to catch it. How do I make it stay still long enough to select the table?

This is a hardy perennial that seems to be somewhat sporadic. I truly don't know what causes it but it's usually easier to use Table> Select> Table. There's also a built-in keyboard shortcut [Option+Clear] if your keyboard has an available Clear Key (It's normally contained in the top row of a numeric keypad on full keyboards.):-) If not, you can assign a custom keystroke to the TableSelectTable command.

Rich: Neither of these worked form me on a desk computer, but may be helpful for people with laptops. I did find that increasing the space between the heading and the table helped (sometimes).

Bob: This worked a treat, and I have added 'select table' to my custom toolbar. Thank you, once more, for coming to my rescue.

Are you really from Taz? Small world.

    Hi Jez,

If you are working from a laptop it could have to do with your trackpad speed. Slowing it down a bit might help.

You should also be able to triple click, which would select the entire table. Give it a try... it works for me.
