MS Access Filtering/Sort Problems 2013

I was running Access 2010 and experienced a problem with the Sort filter icon being greyed out on one field only, within one form

It happened suddenly and I haven’t been able to trace why; whether it was because of a Windows Access update or finger trouble…………..

I have Googled for the obvious, and ruled out a variety of things, as I have.........

  • Cleared All Filters and re-applied
  • Checked no-one has saved a filter
  • Checked use of underscores and reserved words, spaces in Field names, multiple fields with same names = none
  • Checked all Access patches applied

I’ve run a repair on Access – no success

Finally, I have just upgraded to Access 2013 and the problem still exists

Could you help please?

Ian

    Hi

Sorry it took me a bit of time, I was asking someone else to do the screen shot over the phone

There is one attached but unfortunately without any data (although the view is still  the same)

Open the table in Design mode and check the datatype. I'm suspecting it may be a Memo datatype. I just tested this and the memo datatype does not allow sorting.

    Hi Scott

Yes it displays the same with data (Sort options greyed out)

It is only the "Details" column - the others display the sort options

I'm not a Database programmer, but the datafield is Alphanumeric/free format - do you need further information?

And you say it displays the same way even if there is data there? This is on the Details Field, correct? What is the datatype for that field?
