Resource Over Allocation Warnings

I have a data file for a course that has several resources over allocated. However, when I save this file and reopen it, the resources are still over allocated (I didn't change anything) but no warning signs are showing. The red man does not show in the Gantt Chart view and the Yellow diamond with exclamation point does not show in the resource sheet or resource usage views. The over allocated resources still show in red in the resource views, though. What is happening? Why have the warning icons disappeared?

Thank you, Terri, and I fixed the file and sent it back to you, with an explanation.

For everyone else, this problem was caused by a combination of lots of over-allocation due to numerous assignments on recurring tasks (meetings), and one task in particular which had a night time calendar with resources assigned whose calendars excluded night time work. Oh, and a few date constraints as well.

is the leveling calculation manual or automatic?  I know of no occurrence where Project will change data (re-distribute hours) ;by itself.

If you still have a copy of the original file, try opening it and pressing F9 to recalculate the file after opening, does the data change?

Whatever this problem is, it is difficult if not impossible to solve without seeing the file. Can you send the file? trevorATperfectproject.com.au

No nothing was changed. I just checked the leveling options and they are set to Day by Day. All leveling was cleared. Still no warning icons.  I saved the file without changing anything and the icons were there. Then I closed the file and reopened it and they were gone. The resources were still in red but for some the daily distribution of hours was changed  and for others the hours were unchanged on the over allocated days but they no longer showed in red on the Details portion of the Resource Usage view. I've reviewed all the options in the Options dialog box and can figure out what is causing these changes when the file is closed and reopened.

Did you change the Resource Leveling options?  If you changed the leveling options (Resource Ribbon) "Look for overallocations on a " to week by week, the overallocation indicators will disappear.
