The Symbol font has been included in Windows for years and years, so you're licensed to use it, so long as it's the TrueType version.

See if you can find a copy on another PC and install it on yours.

Take care that it's TrueType.  The latest versions of Office don't support Type 1/PostScript fonts.

I think John's got it right, but let's see:

On the Home tab, the Editing group, click the downward-pointing triangle next to Replace then choose Replace Fonts.

In the Replace Fonts box that appears, click the downward-pointing triangle next to the upper of the two text boxes.  That will show you a list of all the fonts the presentation needs in order to appear as designed.

Any missing fonts (fonts that you don't have on your system) will have a question mark next to them.

Let's see if any of the fonts in this presentation are missing.  If so, let us know.

It looks like the files were produced in a version before 2010 using the old equation editor.

My guess is either you do not have the font 'Symbol' installed or it is corrupt. Looks like it is being replaced with maybe Wingdings
