cannot register office 2003

I've just installed my legal copy of Office 2003 on my new laptop (old one went belly-up).  All goes well until  try to register it then I get a screen which does not allow me to register.  I can use Office, but when I load any programme, I am asked to accept/decline the user agreement and cannot register it. Any ideas how to get round this - I presume MS no longer support 2003 versions.

Support for Office 2003 ends April 2014 (that's critical updates and fixes)

Office 2003 is not fully compatible with win8, and you don't mention the win version.

Is your version of Office 2003 a retail version that you purchased separately?

Has any preinstalled Office trial version been uninstalled?

You don't Register Office, you activate it by using the Office Key

You should be able to install and activate 2003 on Win 8.1 (in theory). I do have it working on Win 8.

Are you talking about "Registration" or "Activation". They are 2 different processes in Office. You can ignore registration, but you MUST complete Activation.

We need the FULL and EXACT error message text you are seeing to provide specific help.

If you are having problems completing activation over the internet, you can select the phone activation option.  When you phone in, do NOT reply to the initial prompts. Wait, a long time, until you are offered the option of talking to a live service rep.

I have activated all the software, although if I try to register it, I get the MS Office 365 site and registration does not occur (there is no process or confirmation of registration). but I  can use all of the Office software with minor things not working properly. However, whenever I open a program(I use Outlook email all the time), I am presented with the 'End user license agreement' screen and have to click 'accept'. If I select decline, it closes the program.  Nuisance, but I can live with it BUT would rather stop it. Any ideas?  Les

The register tag would take you to the MS current Office version pages

Registration is not required, its optional, Activation is a must

If you purchased with a Dell PC, from Dell its likely to be an OEM version which cannot/ is not licensed for a different PC.

If you start Word, Help>About would show the version.

Since Office 2003 is not compatible with win8 there are bound to be problems, you could try locating winword.exe then rt click the file and select run as admin.

I recently bought a new laptop with Office 365 trial version  pre-installed - which I de-installed. Then I re-installed this version of Office 2003 which I had purchased years ago with a PC from Dell and received a CD with Office 2003  on it and used that install and  key to activate it.   I am running Win 8.1 on my new laptop. It all works  but just asks for me to agree/decline with the user agreement whenever I first load a programme.  I've gone through deleting the activation file and re-run install - same user agreement results. The register tag takes me to Office 365 min page.
