Does Math Autocorrect do anything in Excel 2013?

Trying to get \degf to insert  ℉  but so far, I can't get it to do anything.  I've seen answers that say the math autocorrect only works in formulas which seems absolutely useless but I can't even get that to work.  Anyone actually use this successfully?

The sole purpose of Math Autocorrect is to make things change in the Insert | Equation feature.

As an experiment I entered into the NORMAL autocorrect change \deg to °C and it worked just fine in a cell.

    re:  converting

Maybe the Convert function is something you can use...

      =CONVERT(212,"F","C")  returns 100
