Display full size equation inline

I am trying to write some mathematical equations in MS Word 13.

If I write the equation inline it is displayed in a small condensed format. If I select the equation and select "Change to Display", it displays correctly but appears on a new line.

I want to know how I can display an equation in display format (large), while still having it inline with the rest of my text.

    I do just want to ask why you want it inline, because if it is such a big equation and it is in the middle of a paragraph, then it will wreak havoc with the spacing of the text lines around it? Or do you want it inline in order to add an equation number?

    If you want it inline in the paragraph, then firstly, turn non=printing characters on (Ctrl+Shift+8, or, in other words, Ctrl+*). You will notice that at the right of the equation, a paragraph end mark is added (the pilcrow symbol you should now see). delete this, and it will be inline, but still in the so-called display format.
