Update Visio Shape Text when linking to Excel data

When I link MS Excel 2010 data to a MS Visio 2010 master using the "Link Data to Shapes" feature, the text ("displayed text") attribute of the resultant MS Visio shape is not set to the value of the MS Excel cell.  Instead, a new shape data field, entitled with the MS Excel column name, is added to the shape with the value set to the MS Excel cell content.  Is there an easy way to get the MS Excel cell value into the text attribute ("displayed text") of the MS Visio master so that it is visible to anyone seeing the shape?

If there is an additional field being added to the shape, that means the previous 'text' field being used is different than the new field. This usually comes down to the case that an excel column name is incorrect or has embedded special characters (such as spaces) in it.
