Excel crashes when using "Insert Function

When I open an Excel Spreadsheet (new or existing) I can enter data into the first cell (A1 for example), and then I hit return and when I try and enter data into the second cell (A2) it crashes.  I was able to discover several things.

1.  After entering something into A1 and hitting return, when I put my cursor into the formula bar, the cursor does not blink.  If I hit a return, it crashes.  If I click the check mark (enter) and then try to enter something, it works.  If I put my cursor into another cell (b2, for example), and then back to A1, it works.  If I click the insert function (next to the formula bar) or the insert function icon at the top, it crashes.  I am using Office 10, running Windows 7, 64 bit.  I have spent hours on this and although the workaround works, it is totally unnecessary. I've tried repairing Office.

Hi,

Let me assist you with the issue.

This issue may occur due to several reasons. Let us start with opening Excel in safe mode. To do that, follow the steps below.

Hold the Windows key and press R, type excel /safe (note there is a space between excel and /).

If the application works fine safe mode, try disabling the add ins for the application and check the result,

Click the File tab.

Go to Options.

Click Add-ins.

Clear all the options.

If that does not help, then follow additional troubleshooting steps mentioned in the following article:
