In Cell Drop Downs in Embedded Excel Sheets

Hi All,

Hoping you can help me, I have an excel spreadsheet that has a few drop down menus using logic stored in the sheet. When this spreadsheet is embedded/shared the drop down menus disappear.

Is this expected behaviour or should the drop down menus still appear when embedded?

For an example sheet see here.

Many thanks,

Ben

    Ben,

This is Andrew Stegmaier, and I'm the Program Manager in charge of Excel embedding. I noticed that the link to your example sheet was not in edit mode. The dropdowns won't show up in view mode, since the user can't change any of the cells (whether they have dropdowns or not in this mode).

To embed your spreadsheet in view mode, in Excel Online, go to File > Share > Embed, and select the option "Let people type into cells (their changes will not be saved)"

    Andrew,

The drop down boxes don't appear when using a combo box or list box either, in the embedded file or when viewing the file online through skydrive.

    Thanks.

    Hi Andrew,

I'm having the same problem.  My sheet is in edit mode, but the drop downs created through data validation still do not show up.  The data validation rules still exist, limiting what people can type in, but the drop down boxes do not show up.

My embedded file can be viewed here.

    Thank you.

    Hello Ben,

How are the drop downs added, did you use data validation or combo box?

Are these created in Excel application and then viewed in Excel online?

Where are you embedding the file and how are you sharing the file?

Provide us more information to check and help you better.

    Thank you.
