Ctrl+V does not Paste the last Copy when using Copy outside of Excel

I have searched everywhere but cannot come up with a solution for this.

Here's my problem in pictures.

  1. I copy some data.

  1. Now I copy some formula in Notepad. Note that while the Clipboard shows my formula as the NEWEST copied item, there is still dashed lines around my previous Excel copy.

  1. I press CTRL + V in cell B27. For some reason, my formula is ignored and it pastes the previous Excel copy.

How do I get it so that CTRL + V always pastes the latest copy, even if it copies outside of Excel?

I have tried the following link and it did not work: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office\_2007-excel/excel-clipboard-does-not-clear-after-performing/76735f65-c1ca-457a-bac6-cc20b6d3edeb

  1. I have cleared my Temp folder.
  2. All Add-Ins are disabled.
  3. This problem persists when I'm using Excel in Safe Mode.

I'm at a lost. Any help would be great!

You are confusing the operation of the Office Clipboard with the operation of Excel's CutCopyPaste mode.

When you copy/cut cells in Excel, you go into CutCopyPaste mode and must paste what you have copied/cut before you can continue working. If you do start working, you will exit CutCopyPaste mode and not be able to paste any more.

The exception to this is that when you are using the Office clipboard, and you copy/cut some cells, they are copied/cut to the Excel clipboard (same rules apply as mentioned before) as well as to the Office clipboard (separate memory store, different rules). You can paste anything from the office clipboard whenever you want (almost, as you have seen!).

So.

Press Esc. so that you are no longer using the Excel clipboard (dashed lines will disappear). Go to B27. click on the Notepad formula in the Office clipboard to paste it.
