Tasks spanning multiple days

I'm converting from 2007 to 2010.  I was reading that I can now find project information to input Start dates under: File-> Project Information section.  If I enter a task and put a 1 wk duration, it will show starting/finishing, i.e. Monday - Friday.  However, if I need to update the start date to start at a later date using the above instructions ("Start Date" under Project Information in the File menu), it changes my schedule to Monday - Monday.  The only way to get it corrected is to go to Project->Project Information to change the start date there instead.  Why does the Project Information section under the file menu cause the tasks to span across days?

    Shaunda,

Go to File/Options/General group. Pick a date format that includes the time.

As an update, I did confirm this issue with another experienced user. I will report this as a bug to Microsoft although since it is a minor issue and there are better ways to set the Project start date,  I wouldn't hold out any hope for a fix.

Further update: I did get confirmation of a bug in Project 2010 and as I understand it, the same problem also occurs in Project 2013. The bottom line is use the standard method for setting the Project Start Date.

Thank you!  I was thinking it must be changing start time somehow but couldn't figure out how to display time.  How do you see the time schedule?

    Shaunda101,

It looks like a bug to me; I'm attempting to confirm it. The reason the task finishes on the following Monday when you set the Project start date via File/Project Information is because it incorrectly sets the start time to 2:00 pm instead of the default 8:00 am.

Until I can confirm whether it is a bug, set the Project Start date via Project/Properties group/Project Information.

    John
