error code 40001

I bought a copy of Office 2010 Home and it came with an offer to upgrade to Office 2013.  So, a year ago I upgraded to Office 2013 or Office 365 for my free 1 year subscription.

Now I'm trying to renew the subscription.  I keep getting Error Code 40001 after entering my card information.  Plus a blurb telling me to close the window and try again.

I chatted with the customer support person, and he told me 40001 means there's a corrupted system file.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

    Hi,

    • What is the exact / complete error message?
    • Which browser are you using?

If Internet Explorer is set as default web-browser then reset Internet Explorer and check. Refer to the link mentioned below to reset Internet Explorer:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737

Disclaimer: The Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature might reset security settings or privacy settings that you added to the list of Trusted Sites. You will also lose any password saved while logging into email service provider websites. The Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature might also reset parental control settings. We recommend that you note these sites before you use the Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature.

Resetting Internet Explorer is not reversible. After a reset, all previous settings are lost and can't be recovered. Rather than resetting everything, you might want to reset specific settings in the Internet Options dialog box or delete your webpage history.

You may also try using a different browser and check the results.

Reply with the more information to assist you better.

    Thank you.

I don't care anymore.  I used Chrome and successfully purchased the subscription to Office 365.  It's ironic that Microsoft Internet Explorer 11, running on Microsoft Windows 7 isn't able to work properly with Microsoft's online store.

    Ironic and pathetic.
