Attempted to insert an image file as an object in Excel 2013 (on Windows 8 Enterprise) -  doesn't work. No matter what format I attempt - 24bit BMP, 256 Color BMP, JPEG, GIF, PNG, TIF - same result. Attempted to insert as an icon - doesn't work either. Any workarounds/thoughts ?

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Office Community and providing us an opportunity to assist you.

I would require additional information for better assistance.

    1. Is there any specific reason that you're trying to insert an image file as object?
    2. What happens when you try inserting the image as an object? Do you receive any error?

Note: You may also capture and upload screen shot describing the issue. Click on Add image > Browse and select the screen shot > and then click on Upload.

Try inserting the image file following instructions mentioned in the following article and verify

    the result:

I have the same issue.  And the article you provided did not work.  I would like to have a picture or icon in the cell that could then be selected to open the picture.  The article's method just brings in the picture but does not imbed it into the selected cell.

I will try to add a symbol or something and then add a hyperlink to the picture from the symbol.  Will let you know how that works.

ok ... its a bit clunky but I added a "symbol" or special character to the cell.  Then after selecting only the cell (not ready to edit the text) I could "Insert" a hyperlink to the file, picture, or whatever object I wanted to open.

I would love to see if there was a way to actually "imbed" an object into the worksheet.  I would like to be able to ship the sheets to others and they would be able to view or use the imbedded object on their own, and they would not require "access" to the stored file.  Also embedding the object relieves some of the pain associated to common changes in file systems ... from both a source and recipient structure.

Maybe we can get this?  It would be cool.

ok.. so I figured out how to create an object by going to the Insert Text Box group. Select the pull down and then select "object" Excel adds appropriate icon and links.  BUUUUUUt .. still does not embed the icon into the cell so that it can always be attached to the record.

Inserting just a hyperlink does what I want it to do... which is provide a link to other content that can be opened.  It just does not provide a nice looking icon!
