I also tried using Microsoft Office Diagnostics.  When I click on it, nothing happens.  Attempted from bot the Start menu AND in the Excel application.

I have tried all of these in the link you provided.  I have been unsuccessful. Using the disk AND tyrying to modify through Programs  and Features, I am getting this message "the language of this installation package is not supported by your system"  I tried to reinstall from the website and it does not recognize my product key.

    Hi,

Try repairing the Office and check if it helps.

Refer the following link and check if it helps:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924611

If the issue still persists, remove and re-install the Office.

Note: Ensure you have the disc and the product key for the Office to re-install.

    I am running Windows 7

    Office 2007 Small Business

Excel seems to be the only application causing issues.

    Hi,

Based on the description, it seems like you are not able to work with the Excel.

What is the version of Office / Excel?

Are you able to work with the other Office applications?

Refer the suggestions in the following thread link for the similar issue and check if it helps:
