Cannot create a document using the New | Microsoft Word Document context menu

Split from this thread.

I am having the same issue when trying to create a new Word document ("Sorry, we couldn't find your file.  Is it possible it was moved, renamed or deleted?") in a home folder network share I have ownership of and full control over.  I cannot create a new Word or Excel document in this folder, but am able to do so on the local HDD.

I get an entirely different error message in Excel when trying to create a new .xlxs file: "Excel cannot open the file 'New Microsoft Excel Worksheet.xlsx because the file format or file extension is not valid.  Verify the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file".  I cannot create a new .xlsx anywhere, local HDD or network share.  I'm using the right click shell menu to create a new file in both cases.

Windows 8.1, Office 2013 x64.

I'm sorry I can't help. I have a vague idea that there have been reports of New > Microsoft Word Document being missing from shortcut menus but not of its not working. Since your question is actually a bit different from the original one in this thread, perhaps it would help to start a new thread with your specific question and configuration details. This might be more likely to attract attention from those more knowledgeable than I.

What are you right-clicking on to create a new file? Ordinarily, you would use File | New (or the New button on the Quick Access Toolbar) to create a new document.

In Windows Explorer, the same way you'd create a new folder.  I've doing this for many years.

This message occurs when you attempt to open a file from the Recent or MRU list in Word or Excel. It should still be possible to use the Open dialog (or Windows Explorer) to navigate to the folder where the file is stored and open it from there. It should then appear on the Recent list again with the correct location.

Not quite sure what you mean by this ... this occurs with when attempting to create a new file from within the network share folder.  I'm using the right click shell menu to create a new file .

I fixed the Excel portion of my post - ran an Office repair.  Still have the issue with Word.
