Word 2013 Table Selector Missing

When I add a table to Word 2013 the table selector (outside the top left corner) is missing so I can't select the table or move it using this selector. Only happens with one copy of Word 2013 - the second copy works just fine.

If I make a document with a table in the version it works with then open it in the version I am having problems with - ditto... the selector is missing.

Anyone else having this problem? And have you found a solution?

The table handle is not available if you are in Touch Mode. Switch to Mouse Mode to display it.

If your laptop is not touch-sensitive, then it's unlikely that Word is in Touch Mode, but see https://support.office.com/en-nz/article/Turn-Touch-Mode-on-or-off-90e162b1-44f9-434f-bc2b-9321c989ea6e.

The only function that I see for the table handle is that it can be used to select the table.  That can also be done via Table Tools>Layout>Select>Select Table or by triple clicking with the left mouse button when the mouse cursor is in a cell of the table.

Check to make sure you are not in "Draft" view. If you are, go to "View" tab and switch to "Page Layout" view and you should see the table selector.

Have you tried switching from Touch Mode to Mouse Mode, as Suzanne suggested in her reply in August?
