Error Message for Resource Levelling

Hi,

I appreciate your advice ASAP.

When I'm trying to run resource levelling in Master project for one resource, I get the message:

"This over allocation can't be resolved." Anat" is assigned at more than the resource's maximum units task…Either reduce this resource's assigned units or increase the resource's resource availability in the resource information dialog box."

In case I run the "levelling all", the MS project is stuck and not responding.

In case I run resource levelling for one resource in one project I get the message:

"Project can't resolve the over allocation for "Anat" on September 21^st^.

I use Project 2013, Standard version and use resource pool. Additionally Anat resource availability is 100% and I entered for all the task in the project to start no earlier than Sept 20^th^.

Please clarify what is the problem in my projects. I found the same error message in all my project for all the resources.

I appreciate your soonest reply.

Best regards

Anat

Pardon me for bumping in.

The first part of the error message:

"This over allocation can't be resolved." Anat" is assigned at more than the resource's maximum units task…Either reduce this resource's assigned units or increase the resource's resource availability in the resource information dialog box."

indicates that Anat is assigned at above 100% to a single task.  This may occur if you have used Fixed Duration or Fixed Work tasks.  Add the Peak field to the Resource Usage view (left side) to see if you have the resource assigned at above 100%

The second message may be occurring if you are attempting to level resources and have the option "Level only within available slack" selected.  With that option selected, Project cannot fix an overallocation if it cannot delay a critical task.  Try unchecking that option and level Anat again.

Anat --

What is the Max. Units value that you specified for each of your resources?  The Max. Units value is used by Microsoft Project 2013 to determine if a resource is overallocated.  If you enter a Max. Units value for a resource as 90%, but then you assign the resource to a task at a Units value of 100%, this is an overallocation Microsoft Project 2013 cannot resolve, and will generate the type of error message you are seeing.  Please let us know and we will try to help you.

You're welcome.  As you have found out (the hard way) resource pools require extra care.

Thanks a lot for your replay.

Unfortunately the problem was because I save all the files at the organization network as well as on my desktop and I had  2 resource pool which was link to 20 projects, 2 of the project were link by mistake to the wrong resource pool.

I break the link and create the link again to the organization network resource pool and it solve the problem.

    Thanks again

    Anat

    Hi Dale,

Thank you for your quick replay.

This resource Max. Units value is 100% . As well as most of my resources. Only 2 resources have 40% Max. units value. But I get the same error massage with all my resources.

    Thanks again.

    Anat
