Help recreate .mdw file

I currently use Access 2010 with an older version of an Access database.  (has not been converted to an .accdb)

I have a database (.mdb) that was protected with a .mdw file.  These were both saved and stored on an external server.  The database has/had been backed up, however not the .mdw file.  The server crashed and I lost the .mdw file.

Can anyone help me with the process to recreate the Security.mdw file that we lost?  I do have Access 2003 on an old computer I can use and I have the necessary information that was used originally.

Please help!  Thank you!

Click the Start button and click on Control Panel. When the Control Panel opens, click on Programs and Features. When the dialog box opens select MicroSoft Office. Then Change.

What you want to do is to do a full install of Office. That will install the security wizard for Access for MDB files.

Then you can open your database and click on the File tab>Info>Manage Users & Permissions>User Level Security wizard. Create a new mdw file using the PID stuff of the old file. Sset yourself up in the Admins Group if it doesn't default to it.

I'm sorry.  I am not really sure what you mean to install the wizard through the Windows Control Panel.  Can you explain a bit more, please?

As far as I know, you have to use the wizard to create the group group file so you can set yourself up as a member of the Admins group. Can you install the wizard through the Windows Control Panel?

I do know all the PID information and have tried to recreate the mdw file.  I have created the shortcut and use it to open the access database.

Now, it will open but says that I do not have permission to open/change any of the files.  When I try to change the permissions it says that I do not have Administrator permission.  Also, when I do open with the shortcut it does not have a login/password form for me to fill in.

I can not run the wizard because that feature is not installed on the computer I am using.

    Any further advice, please??

Read the Access Security FAQ. You can only recreate the MDW if you know the PID that was used to create it with.

The other approach would be to attack the security of the database on the assumption it was not applied correctly. Both of these strategies are discussed in the FAQ,
