Track changes compatible from Mac to PC?

I am working on an editing project with a PC user. I am working with Word for Mac 2011 and she is working with Word 2013. I am tracking my changes in a word document and not accepting them. Then I email the document to her. She cannot see my tracked changes on her end. I believe we are doing everything correctly and have all the viewing options turned on. Is there something we're missing? Or is this feature not compatible from Mac to PC?

A document containing tracked changes should readily display them in any version capable of opening the file... The typical question is how to not have the markup displayed :-)

Is the markup visible when you reopen your copy of the file? Have her email an attachment back to you to see whether the markup appears when you open it. If not, the first thing I'd check is in Word> Preferences> Security to make sure the box isn't checked to Remove personal information from this file on save. [Even if it is, though, that should only prevent the Author/Name info from being retained, not the Comments & other markup.]

  • Are both installations of Office fully updated?
  • Is the file saved in the .docx file type?
  • Exactly how are you sending the file?
  • Have you tried saving the file to a cloud [such as OneDrive]?
  • What other details can you provide?

I know that Word 2013 has had some difficulties but I haven't used that version so I'm not up on specifics.
