Project Server - Custom Field issue

Hi,

I am facing a problem with a custom field.

A custom field has values when I look in the Project schedule.

However if I create a new view My assignments in the Task overview and I use this custom field, I do not see the information that was entered in the project schedule. Strange enough I can put a new value in the empty custom field in the view My assignments..

I have a feeling that it might not be the same field. However I have no idea how to 'debug' this issue.

Any ideas?

Kind regards,

Dirk

Hi Dirk,

sorry for initial misleading answer. Behavior changed from 2010 to 2013, and I was not aware of ...

I could reproduce what you see: without "Calculation for Assignment Rows" you can display field and change. Since Roll down is not enabled, field is empty when displaying in My Work. Moreover, it is updated on assignment level:

After changing the following:

  • "Calculation for Assignment Rows" enabled for this field and
  • enable "Make column read only" in view definition

I think I see what you need:

Does that help?

Regards

Barbara

Ps: Thanks for teaching me a new feature!

    Hi Barbara,

    Thank you for your reply.

I didn't create the field myself but I checked that property and it is not enabled.

Yes, I did publish the project.

Normally this field will not be changed by users. It is only there for information.

Still there is a difference in values between the Task view and the schedule after your suggestion for analyzing the issue.

    Hi Dirk,

when you created this field, did you enable "Roll down, unless manually specified" for "Calculation for Assignment Rows"?

Is your project published? Fields are only displayed in assignment view after publishing.

Just a note: If users change value, this will be changed on assignment level only, not on task level. So project manager will still need to do something to get this data on task level.

To "debug": enter a value, sumbit status update, approve. Open Project in client for editing, apply view Task Usage. Insert your field as column and check values on task and assignment level.

    What do you see?

    Barbara
