problem activating KMS Office 2013

I bought a new computer with Windows 8.

It came with office 2013 which I uninstalled immediately.  I then installed the KMS version of 2013 which was purchased for me by the non profit I volunteer for.  I tried to activate with the key.  Wouldn't do it. 

I called Microsoft and they said the key should work because it is a valid key.  Unfortunately I couldn't understand anyone I spoke with so I took their word for it and tried again.

I have a new computer with Windows 8 (which I find challenging, but will learn the darn thing) and Office 2013 Pro. 

every time I want to use an Office component including email, I get the This product has not been activated box.  I just don't have the 3 or 4 hours it may take to sit on the phone trying to figure out what people are saying.  I think that I just can't understand some types of accents if people are speaking too quickly.

I haven't had the time to try to activate by phone and am not really sure where that all went.

Ive had this computer since June 7 and its October now. 

still no activation on Office and so many other things I'm working hard on.  Just wish I had more time.  My desktop with xp will die soon and I need to be able to use this one before that happens.

Any educational suggestions?  I actually have a full day on Tuesday that I may hunker down on my computer and telephone and maybe even hit the

Geek Squad.  Id rather do it myself.  Id feel like I understood my system better.

I do look forward to 8.1, am hoping for a little relief.

1. What are the options you get when you try to activate Office 2013?
2. Provide the complete error message you when trying to activate the product.
