Error Code 30058-28 Windows 8.1

When I open an Excel or Word document I get a message in a yellow-background bar at the top of the new document that says "Updates Available. Updates for Office are ready to be installed, but first we need to close some apps."  I click on the white-background bar to the right that says "Update now."  When I do that it starts to download, then I get a message that says "We're sorry, we ran into a problem while downloading updates for Office. Please check your network connection and try again later." It gives Error Code 30058-28.  THis has been going on for several weeks.
