GDKD --

Open each of the projects in which you want to set cross-project dependencies.  Click the View tab to display the View ribbon.  In the Window section of the View ribbon, click the New Window button.  In the New Window dialog, select the projects in which you want to set the links, set the View option to Gantt Chart, and then click the OK button.  Microsoft Project will open a temporary master project in which you can set the cross-project links.

Use the Control key to select tasks in different projects and link them.  When you finish the linking session, close the temporary master project and do not save the changes.  The links were not in the temporary master project; instead, they are in each of the projects.  You should now see "ghost tasks" in each of the projects, which show you the external tasks from other projects.  Save each of the projects.

Hope this helps.

    GDKD,

As an additional comment to Dale's excellent response, linked structures in Project are fragile and can cause file corruption if not created and maintained with the utmost discipline. The files in the structure must never be moved, renamed, over-written, or "saved off" to another location. All files should also be kept in a single directory on a local drive and not be operated over a network.

    John
