MS Word Insert Object Problem

Since upgrading to Mac OS10.11.1 and MS Word 14.1.4 I am unable to insert objects (.TIFF, .JPG, .JPEG, etc.) into a word document.  When I attempt to do so I get a 'Microsoft Error Reporting' wind that states 'Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.'  Word then shuts down and reopens with a blank document page.  Anyone have any ideas how to get around this problem?

I believe the main cause of the issue is that your installation of Office 2011 is nearly 4 years behind on updates... That's probably complicated by the fact that you're running it on the most contemporary release of the operating system.

I'd suggest that before chasing symptoms that you first go to the Help menu in any Office program & select the Check for Updates command. You'll need to apply only the 14.5.8 update which is cumulative. After installing it, Restart your Mac before launching any of the Office programs.

Also, make sure you're using the Insert> Photo command... the wording of your message suggests that you may be trying to use Insert> Object instead.

Thank you Bob.  Your suggestion was most helpful and appears to have resolved the problem, actually more than one.  I neglected to change the check for update from manual to automatic and assumed the autoupdate function on the Mac would cover everything. That has been changed.  As for using 'insert>object', I have always used that option and without problems until about two weeks ago.  That is also working fine now.

Out of curiosity, actually nosiness, where are you located?
