Sentence Spacing

I apologise if this has been asked before but I have been search lots of different forums and can not seem to find an answer. I originally used Word 2003 and had it set to automatically set 2 spaces between sentences. I seem to remember there was an option to do this automatically and I had to have it set that way from dissertation at Uni.

I switched to  Word 2007 a long time ago and have never had to use this option before. I am trying to write a report and the person who commissioned it has asked for 2 spaces between sentences as they find it easier to read. I have set the document up under grammar so  that I have 2 spaces between sentences but I have to go back and manually correct ever sentence. On a document that is 20+ pages this is very tedious and doing it on the fly interrupts the flow.

I know that this style is a throwback to typewriter days but is there any way to automate the spacing. So does anyone now whether it is possible? or if there is an add-in that I might be able to download and use?

Many thanks,

Rob

This has never been an option in Word. The grammar checker will tell you whether you have typed according to your preferences. I know of no Add-In that would do this.

You can press Ctrl+Z to Undo a specific autocorrection that you do not want, but of course doing so wouldn't save much time, and you would have to watch the screen closely.

I'm wondering in which version of Word you got the two spaces automatically. My guess is that you had an add-in of some sort that did it in those versions.

    Stefan,

Thanks for the reply. It is a good work around but in a document with lots of acronyms and abbreviations, such as etc., Mr., Mrs. and a lot more of the same,  it is more time consuming than doing it by hand. I think I'll just have to leave it single spacing. It does seem strange to me that the option is there in grammar to have two spaces at the start of a sentence but no way for it to be automated.

Once again thanks for the suggestion

    cheers

    Rob

    Charles,

I am sorry to disagree with you but it was an option in previous versions.

I set it up and used it for all my work when studying for my degree. It was a long time ago and I can remember setting it up because it was something I had never done before. It was under the grammar & spelling options to the best of my recollection. Believe me if I had to adjust my course work manually  every time I would have remembered :-).

I can understand if Microsoft have removed the feature, that is their choice and I'm sure I'll cope without it. It did make reading easier for those of us with less than perfect eyesight.

Thank you for taking the time to reply and I'm sorry it has taken so long to reply

    cheers,

    Rob

You could try setting up an AutoCorrect entry that replaces a period with a period and two spaces. Of course, the downside is that this entry would trigger even when you add a period that isn't supposed to end a sentence.

If you decide to go with this, somewhat clumsy, solution, remember to remove the AutoCorrect entry once you are done with that particular document.
