capturing text density

Does MSWord do any sort of language scoring, aside from 'word count per page,' but instead translating that into capturing if the text on a page is too dense?  For example, could MSWord communicate that the number of words per page is "too texty" or "too dense"?  Thank you!

No, there is no such function built into Word. It might be possible to program it as a macro, but only if you can define in numeric terms what makes a particular page "too dense". Further, that definition might depend on the audience, on the intended use or content (e.g., fiction vs. legal contracts), on the selected page dimensions, etc.

You can view some extra page statistics by enabling a setting:

  1. In Word, choose File, then Options.
  2. Click on Proofing.
  3. Under When correcting spelling and grammar in Word, check Show readability statistics. OK out.
  4. Now open a document and click on Review>Spelling & Grammar. The bottom of the summary includes the percentage of passive sentences, the Flesch Reading Ease index and the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level.
