Excel won't open

I receive the following error message:  C:\Windows\System32\MSVCP140.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.  Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.  Error status 0xc000012f.  So far, my other Office programs are working.

I have tried tried to do a system restore to an earlier period, cannot see that there have been any program updates that would have affected Excel, and have tried the other suggestions for earlier Windows versions.  (I'm using Windows 10 and Office 2016.

Any help would be appreciated.

In looking up the updates, however, I noticed that there was a repair function for Office in my Control Panel.  When I used that, it did fix the .dll problem, so this issue is now resolved.  Thank you for your help, anyway!

In looking at all the updates that have been installed on this computer (it is a pretty new computer), it does not appear that update KB2879017 has ever been installed.
