Autocomplete will not work on a specific spreadsheet in Excel 2016

Hi

I have a simple profit/loss spreadsheet that will not autocomplete in the text cells for "supplier" & "customer".

The majority of suppliers and customers are repeated quite often but Excel doesn't "fill" in any suggestions as I start typing a name.

eg. ACME GIANT MAGNET COMPANY, usually I type AC and Excel will fill the rest in for me and all I do is press enter to accept the suggestion.

I have another 3 or 4 spreadsheets I use and the autocomplete works on them.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mark

Had the same problem and only on one spreadsheet.  I started by inserting lines above and trying the autofill.  I'd skip about 100 lines at a time until I found where it started working.  Then started to narrow it down and finally found the line where above it worked and below it didn't.  I tried retyping the line then deleting the bad line -- did not fix it.  I tried reformatting the line but still no go.  Finally found that the retyped line worked but  I had to leave the bad line in, but with no entries.

    Hi

    Thanks for the reply.

I disabled as above, and then re-enabled but still nothing.

I then as you suggested, copied to a new worksheet and still no auto complete.

After I disabled/enable I checked the other spreadsheets and they are working fine still.

    Thanks

    Mark

    Hello Mark,

Welcome to Microsoft Community and thank you for posting your query.

I suggest you to try disabling and enabling the Autocomplete option in Excel and check if it work as expected in Excel sheet.

To do so, kindly refer to the below mentioned steps and check if it helps.

    • Click on the File tab of the ribbon to open the File menu
    • Click on Options to bring up the Excel Options dialog box
    • Click on the Advanced button in the left hand pane
    • Under the Editing Options section
    • Click on the Enable AutoCompletefor cell values option box to remove the checkmark
    • Click OK to close the dialog box and return to the worksheet
    • AutoComplete should now be disabled
    • To re-enable AutoComplete, repeat the above steps and re-check the option box.

If issue persist, you may copy the sheet data to a new worksheet and check if Autocomplete works properly there.
