REF macroTest \* MERGEFORMAT

When I use { REF macroTest } my references work.

But sometimes \* MERGEFORMAT gets put in { REF macroTest \* MERGEFORMAT }.  When this happens it breaks and does nothing.

Thanks

In most instances, \* MERGEFORMAT is not useful; in some it causes problems. It happens if you check the box to preserve formatting when you insert the field. (It is checked by default.) You can delete it from your field.

The name "macroTest" for a bookmark is certainly unusual.

This thread may help to explain what's happening, and a couple of ways of removing the switch are given.
