Show image thumbnail in cell, html link to image

We have many excel docs with links to detailed data. I would like to insert a hyperlink in a cell, linked to a picture, and also have a thumbnail preview of the picture. I've found similar questions online on other sites, with answers, but the none of the answers actually work.  Excel 2010.

    Using the Hyperlink function (or the standard Insert Hyperlink option) with an adjoining cell containing a comment (containing the image) might work for you...

    Formula...

       = HYPERLINK(link_location,friendly_name)

    VBA code to insert picture into a comment...
