Excel appears across multiple virtual desktops

I have been having a problem with Excel 2010 and a specific sheet. Whenever I have this specific sheet open, Excel persists across multiple desktops despite only being open in one. I have had other sheets open and the program does not persist across desktops, as you would expect. This was a sheet that I downloaded from an Internet source, so it is possible that it has some setting turned on that causes this that I'm not aware of, but I can't seem to find any documentation that matches this description. I would be willing to upload a copy of the sheet if there's a way to do that. Thanks in advance!

    File > Options > Advanced

Display heading area, uncheck "Show all windows in the Taskbar" and click OK and restart excel.

This looks to resolve the multiple desktop issue as well as the alt-tab issue for switching between applications rather than Excel windows. (ctrl-tab still works for switching between the views).

    <Thanks Tom - 2014>

    • Use <Windows><Tab> to get up the Virtual Desktops
    • Right click on an instance of Excel in the screen
    • Use the dialogue box that appears to deselect 'Show this window on all desktops'
    • Sorted

Follow up.  This occurs with two sheets open in one instance of Excel.

If a separate instance of Excel is open, the problem does not exist.

    SOLUTION (Temporary)

Use two windows of Excel instead of one.

    DEAR MICROSOFT,

This is not an acceptable solution as now I must dedicate additional memory and system resources to an extra instance of Excel.  Please fix the code.  Thanks

Shugie, it looks like this should work, but when I open a new desktop and open an excel spreadsheet it flips back to the first desktop and the open excel spreadsheet and opens it there. It also rechecks the Show on all desktops feature. This works if you only need to open spreadsheets on the same desktop.

    • Use <Windows><Tab> to get up the Virtual Desktops
    • Right click on an instance of Excel in the screen
    • Use the dialogue box that appears to deselect 'Show this window on all desktops'

I have tried everything I can think of to have excel only show in one desktop with no success. If I minimize it in one of the other desktops it disappears, not showing as minimized, however, it them becomes minimized in the desktop it is actually in. And, it does seem to only occur if I open more than one sheet.

Excel seems to be the only application that has this issue. Does anyone have a resolution?

For the love of all things blue and white Microsoft, will you please solve this issue?  This topic was broached in August of 2015.  Here we are nearly a year later and not a single mention of t it.  You haven't even addressed it.

I use virtual desktop and love it for multitasking, however, anytime I open Excel, it shows on all my virtual desktops.  This defeats the purpose of me researching on desktop one, then switching to desktop 2 in order to transcribe info.

What is the point if it is open when I switch back to desktop 1?

    Scenario:

1.)  Program A is running on desktop 1.

2.)  Create virtual desktop 2 and open Excel with two workbooks split vertically in one instance of Excel.

3.)  Switch back to desktop 1 to find Excel is duplicated in the same format as desktop 2.

4.)  Closing the Excel on desktop 1 closes it on desktop 2.

    IS THERE A SOLUTION?
