    Jim,

Thank you for saving me from wasted time on a bad answer. And thank you for offering your comments.

Let me be clear about one point. I looked very carefully for the type of option that has always been available in the past to choose which parts of Office to install and I was never given this option. I will go confirm the precise form of my purchase, and report back. It is possible that this option might still be available, e.g. for different version, but it was definitely not available to me.

So when you say, "Once installed, there is not a global way ..." what this means is "There is absolutely no way to install the version of Office that I paid for without exposing myself to unwanted risk from VB."

Not what I would call a user friendly or security conscious design choice. Nor one that I was informed about when I made my purchase.

    Sigh.

    Paul

FYI, I have Office 365, purchased through the Microsoft Store. It is an annual subscription so I can let it lapse.

All I want is a desktop install for the Mac of Word and Excel.

Does anyone know if there is still a version I can purchase that gives me some control over what I install?

    Paul

I am sorry that Arshad jumped in and blocked your opportunity to get a good answer to your question.

Once installed, there is not a global way to disable Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) in Office 2016. Unless you change the setting to allow all macros to run in each application's preferences, you will always be presented a dialog on opening a file that has macros. The dialog offers the option to Disable Macros do Do Not Open. Choose either of these options.
