Excel files between PC and MAC

I have Office 365 on both a PC and Mac.  I use Outlook to get my mail on both the PC and MAC.  An email from my boss included an excel file attachment. Here is the problem:

ON THE MAC: When I try and open the attachment I get an error that the file is corruppted

ON THE PC:  The file opens just fine

This is a problem because I don't always have access to the PC, and if I have the newest version of excel on my Mac, I should be able to open any excel file regardless of what kind of computer it was generated on. Right?

Can anyone help?

    That's nice.

Now go to the Excel menu and choose About Excel to find out what update level you have. If it is not version 15.14 then your installation of Office needs to be updated.

I just loaded Office 365 directly from the Microsoft website two weeks ago.

Well, yes, you are supposed to be able to open any Excel file no matter where it was made.

To the best of my knowledge, the latest update to Excel fixed the problem you are reporting. You didn't tell us what version of Excel you are using. Go to the Excel menu and choose About Excel to find out what update level you have. If it is not version 15.14 then your installation of Office needs to be updated.

Make sure your internet connection is working. To update Office go to the Help menu in Excel and choose Check for Updates to launch the AutoUpdate app, which can install the updates for you.

Are you trying to open the file directly from the email. Have you tried saving the same and opening it
